Chapter 56

Patrick was staring at the ceiling, feeling a mix of confusion and anger, and let out a sigh. 'Damn it! Isn't Emily usually the most obedient one? Why did she change all of a sudden?' he thought.Emily's sudden departure left Patrick feeling somewhat unsettled. He was used to being in control, and now he felt powerless.

"Did Emily change her mind?" Patrick wondered, gritting his teeth in frustration. He couldn't believe that Emily, who had always been under his control, would think of leaving him. No way! He had to keep her by his side until he decided he was done with her.

Patrick silently vowed to himself that he would make Emily come back. As long as he didn't want her to leave, she wouldn't be able to.She was the one who chased him down in the beginning, and now she's just gonna leave without a care? What role did he truly play in Emily's heart? Was he merely a sex partner, or was he regarded as a god of wealth? This contemplation filled his heart with a surge of anger. He felt betrayed and couldn't accept it.

"Shirley, can I eat these pink pills?" Elbert asked, looking at the three pink pills in Shirley's hand with childlike curiosity. He seemed to think they were candy, his face full of anticipation.

Shirley covered Elbert's hand with her own, giving him a stern look. "No. Remember what I said, you must not eat these. They are medicine that can make one's body better." She spoke to him as if he were a child, concealing her true intentions. A hint of panic flashed in her eyes.

"But I..." Elbert anxiously pointed at himself and blinked his eyes.Shirley quickly extended her hand and waved it above Elbert's head.In response, Elbert hurriedly covered his head. "Don't hit! Don't hit!Daddy won't eat! Won't eat!"

Seeing that Elbert had calmed down, Shirley finally lowered her hand.

Elbert pointed to himself anxiously, looking helpless and confused. He didn't understand why Shirley wouldn't let him take the pills. He felt his body needed improvement, too.

"Dad, you can't eat this! Because you've been doing housework for years, keeping fit! Just look at how great your body is! So you don't need to eat! Remember that? Patrick is always busy working and has no time to exercise, so I bought these pills for him to improve his health. You must not take them, or you'll get a nosebleed," Shirley explained impatiently, looking at Elbert's naive expression. She felt that the Rivera family owed them, and she wanted to change that. These pills were her chance.

Hearing Shirley's explanation, Elbert immediately covered his nose and took two steps back. "No, I don't want a nosebleed! Then why don't you give the pills to Mr. Rivera?" he asked, still confused.

Shirley lowered her eyes, thinking that if things went wrong,Elbert wouldn't be held accountable because he was a fool. But she couldn't risk being kicked out of the Rivera Manor. She knew the risks of her plan, and if discovered, she wouldn't get involved with it anyway. If they want to get rid of Elbert, then so be it. At worst, she could just feed him every day-he won't starve.

Shirley looked up and smiled at Elbert. "Because, Dad, you like Patrick the most, and Patrick likes you the most too, right? So,he wvill be glad if you give him water with the pills dissolved in it. But don't tell him about the pills; it's a surprise." Elbert nodded proudly, beaming. "Yes, I like Mr. Rivera the most, and I like Shirley too." He had a happy, contented smile.

A cold smile crept onto Shirley's lips. Ever since Elbert saved Patrick from that head injury, Patrick had been all he could think about. He didn't even consider who had caused him to get hurt in the first place. 'If it weren't for the Rivera family, how did we end up so miserable?' she thought, feeling a wave of resentment. She believed her fate shouldn't be like this; she wanted to change it and become the mistress of the Rivera family.

Thinking back to the last time Jennifer kicked her out, she felt a flush of humiliation. Despite treating Jennifer with respect and filial piety all these years, Jennifer's kindness and favoritism were all just a show! Why was Jennifer doing this? It was clearly to maintain the family's reputation to show outsiders how much they sacrificed to raise the daughter of a loyal servant. It was all a facade! Shirley felt deceived by Jennifer and no longer believed in her emotions. She only believed in herself; only she could change her fate.

Having seen through it all, Shirley no longer held any hope for Jennifer. She once thought Jennifer might suggest that Patrick marry her, but that was just wishful thinking. Shirley was resolved to get pregnant with Patrick's child! That was the fastest way to enter the Rivera family. 'This is my only way out, my only chance to change my destiny,' she thought and clutched the pill tightly in her hand,

her eyes burning with intensity.

Shirley examined the three small pills under the fluorescent light. as if she were looking at her soon-to-be-realized dream of entering the aristocratic family. She was determined to become the woman everyone envied and admired! She could even picture herself in a stunning gown, adorned with expensive jewelry, standing at the entrance of Lu Villa No. 1. she ordered all the servants to line up at her feet.

Patrick slowly woke up. the sunlight streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows. bright and warm. Suddenly, his hand twitched unnaturally. When he lifted his robe,he saw the wound was red and infected. With a furrowed brow, he picked up his phone and dialed Elbert's number. After a few rings. Elbert's hearty voice came through."Mr. Rivera, what's wrong?"

"Elbert, my wound is infected. Could you check which driver is home right now? I need to go to the hospital." Patrick asked. Elbert.hearing this, became nervous and muttered. "The driver is out taking Mrs. Rivera somewhere, and the other driver is on leave. What to do?" He was anxious, worried that Patrick's wound and afraid of his current situation wouldn't allow him to drive Patrick. The main reason was that Mrs. Rivera had prohibited him from driving for the time being.
