Chapter 59
Patrick's voice was deep and serious. He hoped Shirley would get the hint and stop acting like that. He threw on his clothes, ready to get out of this awkward situation.
After saying his piece. Patrick left without a backward glance. Although he managed to push through the medication's effects for now, he knew it would mess him up if he didn't satisfy his sexual urges soon. Patrick realized he couldn't be with any woman other than Emily.
Stepping out of the apartment, Patrick felt all kinds of conflicted. Why did he have these feelings for Emily? He felt like he couldn't be without her,but admitting it was a whole other story.
As Patrick walked away, tears streamed down Shirley's face. Her beloved Patrick had just said he saw her only as a younger sister! What about all the years she had devoted to him?
Shirley thought, 'Patrick, you just haven't figured out your true feelings yet.You don't want to hurt me because of those strong pills.' Sitting on the sofa, crying. In her heart, there was a faint thought,'Could it be that all my efforts were in vain, that Patrick had no feelings for me? No, it's absolutely impossible. It's all that wretched Emily's fault!'
Emily, unsure of how to proceed, felt like a soulless doll lost. Meanwhile, a gust of wind lifted her skirt, snapping her back to reality.Watching the kids play happily in the square, she thought life could be that simple.Looking at her slightly bulging belly, Emnily gently touched it, thinking, 'Baby, I'm so lucky to be your mom. Although your father has brought a lot of pain into my life, having you around seems to offer a little bit of
comfort.' Her eyes were full of tenderness and love; she felt like this child would give her life new hope.
Emily's gaze fell on her empty wrist, and she pictured Patrick and Shirley all over each other, making her mood turn sour. After all those years together. it felt like it meant nothing. It's almost better to have a pet, which wouldn't betray her!
With a mix of anger and unease. Emily stood up from the bench, opened her purse, took out her favorite lipstick and a small mirror, touched up her fading lipstick, smiled at the mirror, and said. "Emily, you got this. From now on, you have new strength to keep going!" Encouraging herself in the mirror, she knew she had to be strong for the baby.
With that, she headed back towards Maple Peak Apartments, thinking.'Since I'm here, I can't leave empty-handed.' That bracelet, which Patrick looked down on and mocked as outdated anad tacky, is the only keepsake Brian left her; it carried unique memories and love. Emily walked firmly towards the apartment, her only goal to find that bracelet. She thought of Brian, feeling warmth and longing. The bracelet was the bond between her and Brian.
As she entered the apartment building, Emily caught a glimpse of Shirley's stumbling figure disappearing by the fountain. She couldn't help but think,Just moments ago, those two were all over each other, so why weren't they together now? It's really puzzling, but whatever, it's not my problem.'Emily walked into the apartment, feeling a bit confused. She didn't know why Shirley left so quickly, but she didn't care. All she cared about was finding her bracelet.
Emily quickly walked to the elevator, pressed the up button, and just wanted to find the lost bracelet! In no time, she was back in front of the
apartment door. Her fingertips landed on the keypad, and it lit up."Unlocked, welcome home." A small smile flickered at the corner of Emily's mouth. She thought, 'Maybe there's still a little place for me in his heart.Emily opened the door, her heart somewhat hopeful, wondering if shestill had a place in Patrick's heart. She walked into the room. looking at everything familiar. filled with emotion.
As she pushed the door open. Emily noticed the usually spotless floor was covered with water stains. She thought. 'They really know how to have fun!Emily felt uncomfortable. remembering the sounds she heard earlier. She didn't want to dwell on it; she just wanted to find the bracelet.
Without wasting time. Emily began to search methodically. There were too many memories here. Important things from the past, she always placed them closest to where she rested. As she turned around, she came to the place where they made love the most. The bedroom, the place she least wanted to step into. Apprehensive of the disorder that could disturb her.Emily paused. Her right hand grazed her bare left wrist, now devoid of Shirley's voice in the room. Taking a deep breath, she entered. Everything remained as it was. In this room, she and Lu Wen had shared many moments.
The bedroom door was pushed open, only to find everything neatly arranged, as if nothing had happened before. Did she have auditory hallucinations earlier, or was she mentally disturbed? Emily was surprised. She didn't know why the room was so tidy. She felt like she was having hallucinations. She walked into the room, searching everywhere for the bracelet.
Opening the first drawer of the bedside table, to her surprise, her thick books lay quietly there. Emily thought she had taken everything she could with her, never thinking her beloved books were left behind. She picked
up one from the middle, flipped through a few pages gently, and the pungent ink smell made Emily want to vomit. She puat down the book in her hand, hurried to the bathroom, and vomited frantically into the toiet.Emily's body felt uncomfortable, her recent morning sickness getting worse. She looked at herself in the mirror, feeling helpless.
During this time., Emily found her morning sickness more pronounced.Looking at her thin face in the mirror, she muttered to herself. "It's a good thing I'm not at the office. otherwise. I don't know what I'd do looking like this."
In a daze, she seemed to hear the sound of the door opening. Emily's body involuntarily trembled. Who could it be? Emily felt nervous. She didn't know who had come back. She was scared it might be Patrick, but she also hoped it was him.
Emily faintly felt a gaze behind her, feeling the burning stare could ignite her. She turned around and saw Patrick. Why did Patrick come back?
