Chapter 61
Emily.all jittery、said, "Patrick, I really don't want to spell it out."
"Just say it." Patrick held her against the sink, his arms wrapped around her waist. His eyes were a mix of eagerness and teasing, wanting her to spill whatever was on her mind.
"I saw Shirley leaving the apartment earlier," Emily blurted out. Patrick grabbed the back of her neck, making her look at him. His eyes flashed with a complex emotion. Yet, he felt he shouldn't explain to Emily. He was torn between not wanting her to misunderstand and not wanting to appear weak. So, he stayed silent for a long time.
"So,you think something is going on between Shirley and me?" Patrick's voice was low and rough.
"What if I do?" Emily shot back, her eyes blazing with anger and jealousy. She felt that Patrick was being unfair. She'd given up so much for him, only to be treated like this.
Seeing her jealous face, Patrick felt a weird sense of satisfaction, but he didn't want to explain. His hand slid under her skirt, filled with desire and possessiveness. He couldn't bear the thought of losing her.
Suddenly. Emily remembered she was pregnant and couldn't risk it. She squirmed, pounding on his chest. "Patrick, you can't do this!" She worried about the baby.
Patrick's eyes darkened at her words. He stopped and placed his hands on her hips. "You really don't want to do this?"
Patrick's skin was burning up, hotter than usual. Emily, noticing he had
stopped. touched his neck and felt the heat. He must've been drugged!
When Patrick saw Emily stroking him, his grip weakened."Patrick, if you really need it. I'll help you." Emily bit her lip, trying to fight her feelings for him, but she couldn't stand seeing him suffer.
Patrick, no longer forcing her, lay down on the bed, his shirt half-open,waiting for her touch.
With his eyes closed, he seemed to be waiting for her reaction. Despite their many intimate moments, he still felt a thrill. Not having felt her touch in a while, he squinted at her and noticed a different look in her eyes. He felt a slight tremor in his heart when he realized that she had a pair of clear, bright eyes. They were like two crystal-clear orbs that seemed to see right through him.
Patrick felt a bittersweet mix in his heart. The sweetness was his hopes for their future, while the bitterness was the real emotions he couldn't express, leaving him often feeling lost.
Emily took a deep breath, feeling like she was gearing up for a showdown. Her fingers brushed over Patrick's open shirt, accidentally grazing his chest. She heard a faint moan and realized he was just as easily provoked.
He must have been enduring for a long time. Thinking of this, Emily couldn't help but feel a surge of joy; it seemed that he hadn't just given in to Shirley when he was unable to hold back.
Emily knew which parts of Patrick were sensitive, and just as she was preparing for the next step, his phone rang at that moment. The mood she had been stirring up instantly cooled down. She sighed and tossed the phone onto his chest.
At the same time, the ringtone pulled the dazed Patrick back to reality. He sat up quickly, saw the name on the screen, frowned, and then swiped to answer.
On the other end. Jennifer's voice came through in a rush.
"What's wrong?" Patrick asked, his voice slightly hoarse.
"Is everything okay? Are you hurt?"
"I'm fine." Patrick had no desire to discuss Shirley and just wanted to end the call with Jennifer quickly.
"Is someone with you?" Jennifer sensed that there was someone nearby.
"Shirley definitely crossed the line this time. Mom, some things can be forgiven for Elbert's sake, but not the principles."
"I understand. I called to ask if you're really angry or just temporarily upset. You know, Shirley has grown up with you. You've protected and spoiled her more than I have."
"This time, it won't happen," Patrick replied.
"Alright, since you say so, I know how to handle it. She is maturing and starting to think about marriage. She sees you as the perfect match, and because you are not related by blood, she may be entertaining certain thoughts."
Jennifer said all this because of her connection to Elbert. It would be too cruel to completely abandon them over a small mistake."And remember, don't let your wound get wet, and go to the hospital soon," Jennifer added before hanging up.
"How could the wound get infected?" Emily felt a twinge in her chest when she heard that. She turned to Patrick, realizing he was hurt. How could he be so reckless?
After hanging up. Patrick's gaze accidentaly met Emily's. and he noticed her worry. He casually said. "I'm fine, don't overthink it."
Emily turned her gaze away, unwilling to admit her concern. Patrick lay back down, but Emily's heart had already lost its romantic feeling.Moreover. Patrick had clearly become much more alert after her help; he just needed to take some medicine and soak in warm water.
"Are we continuing?" Patrick asked when he saw Emily standing still.
"Patrick, if you're fine, I'll leave first. I have things to do." Emily said softly.Without waiting for his reply, she stood up and turned to go to the bedroom to wash her hands.
Patrick got up, put on his clothes, and blocked the door. "Tell me, Emily.what conditions would you need to come back?"
Emily looked deeply at Patrick while drying her hands and shook her head. She pushed his hand, which was propping up the door, aside.
"Patrick, you've helped me. I've helped you, too. There's no need for us to stay in contact. Let's just let it go; you never liked me anyway. Stop bothering me." Emily knew that once she touched on Patrick's pride, he would blow up for sure. And just like that, he stepped back a couple of paces.
"Do you think I would bother you? Who do you think you are? Emily, you really overestimate yourself!" He then grabbed his coat and slammed the door as he left.
Emily hurriedly left the apartment as well. She realized she had no willpower at all. Just seeing Patrick, especially when he was hurt or pleading, made her heart crumble instantly.
In a state of emotional turmoil, she seemed to have forgotten the purpose of returning to the Green Forest apartment. Distracted, she was drawn to a vendor selling colorful balloons nearby, surrounded by children clamoring for their favorite cartoon balloons.
Seeing this scene finally helped to calm her troubled heart. Forget about Patrick. It was better to think about the baby in her belly. Emily unconsciously reached out to touch her slightly bulging belly, a motherly smile spreading across her face.
Angry, Patrick hadn't walked far, but he regrettably missed witnessing this moment.
