Chapter 57

The next day, in Nathan's residence, Hilda had slept till late.When she woke up, it was past lunch time. Sitting on thebed,she looked around the room. It took her a moment to recall that they had arrived home in the middle of the night after leaving the birthday party.

Memories about what happened at the birthday party and how Nathan escorted Gloria into her house came flooding back into her mind. She smiled bitterly as she looked around.

She got up and freshened up before heading down stairs for lunch. When she got down stairs, she was treated with the sight of Nathan walking back home from outside.He had lots of shopping bags with him.

Hilda took a look at him and ignored him walking straight into the kitchen. When Nathan saw this, he frowned. Although he had expected this, he was a little optimistic that Hilda would be in a good mood when she wakes up.

Sighing, he placed the bags down in the hall and followed Hilda into the kitchen. With a smile on his face, he approached Hilda who was currently looking into the fridge and said."Pumpkin, your food is in the microwave. Let me heat it up for you."

Hilda who didn't get anything in the fridge, looked at him and went to sit in the dinning hall waiting for her food, Although she was giving Nathan the cold shoulder, she was really

hungry so there was no way she would reject his food.

She sat on the dinning chair and started playing with her phone. Nathan hurriedly heated her food and brought it to her like she was an empress and he was her servant. Seeing how nicely Nathan was treating her, Hilda had a bad feeling about it.

Although it is nice for a husband to pamper his wife, Hilda though Nathan was treating her nicely because he had done something wrong.

She looked at the food and then at Nathan who had taken a seat in front of her before picking up her fork to take a bite.He had served her with spam fried rice, BBQ chicken salad,Mac and cheese and sunny side up eggs. The same as what Samuel had brought for her the last time.

Looking at the food, she wondered whether Nathan had prepared it himself or he bought it earlier. Although she had wanted to ask, she decided not to as she was still mad at him.

Like a mind reader, Nathan looked at her who was wolfing down the food. "I prepared them by myself. How does it taste?"Yes, Nathan had prepared the food by himself. Although it didn't taste like any of his signature dishes, he knew by the way she was munching it that she liked it.

Although he knew how to cook, this wasn't part of his signature dishes so he had to google how to prepare all this.By the time he was done he was really exhausted.

Hilda just nodded and continued with her food. After she was

done, Nathan stopped her from doing the dishes. Hilda was surprised. She felt warm at how Nathan was treating her but her gut feelings told her that, 'Nathan is only acting nice because he had done something wrong. Maybe he really did sleep with Gloria.' Thinking about this, she felt her heart being shuttered.

Knowing very well that Hilda was still mad at him, Nathan was just trying his best to warm her heart. If he knew what was going on in Hilda's mind at this time, he wouldn't have tried all this.

Hilda sat in the hall after she was done eating and her eyes caught sight of the bags Nathan had brought in earlier. When she saw the logos on the bag, her eyes lit up. It was the logo of a fashion brand that she soo much loved but she had never been able to afford even one of their dresses for herself as their clothes were really expensive.

Nathan walked in at this moment and sat down right beside her. "Pumpkin, I got you some things."

Hilda looked at him without saying anything but the glint in her eyes told Nathan that she was looking forward to whatever it was.

He turned and started opening the bags. In it were all different styles of office wears for ladies. Hilda's eyes brightened up when she saw them. Although she wasn't working now,she had always dreamt about wearing one of the limited edition office wears and here, Nathan got them for her.

She was elated but recalling that she was still mad at Nathan,she turned and started fidgeting with her phone. Nathan had expected this too.

He didn't know what he had done wrong but he knew his next surprise might blow Hilda's mind away. With that thought in mind, he stood up and left for his study.

When Hilda saw him walking into his study, she frowned.Why did he get up when I'm still mad at him? He can't be mad at me or is he? I am the one who should be mad not him after how he showered Gloria with all his attention last night.'

Thinking about this, Hilda smiled bitterly. As she was still having all this wild thoughts, Nathan came back into the living room with a file in his hand.

"Pumpkin guess what. I have something for you." Nathan said.

Hilda was touched at how Nathan was trying his best to make her happy but her gut feeling told her that something wwas wrong. She knew there was no point for her to keep mum anymore so she asked. "What is it?"

Nathan smiled when she finally spoke to him. "Here open it."He then handed the files to Hilda. She was a bit curious as to what could be in the file too but then she looked up at Nathan."What's in it?"

"Just open it." Nathan replied with a sly smile.

Seeing him smiling like that, Hilda started having wild and

absurd thoughts. Could it be that he is angry with me and as already prepared a divorce? What? He already had a divorce prepared just in case Gloria came back. Hah, I have been a fool.But should I really open it? No I can't let him go just like that.'

With that thought in mind, Hilda got up and threw the file back at him. "If you think you can get it done with just like this, then dream on!" She yelled angrily and run up the stairs into the guest room shutting the door lock with tears threatening to fall at any moment.
