Chapter 118
William Lowell's brow furrowed deeply. "Even you... can't do anything about it?"
"Hmm." Commissioner Woods sighed quietly. "It's better to stay in one's lane. There's always someone stronger..."
The line fell silent.
"Discipline your brother properly when he gets out." The commissioner's voice grew stern. "Before he causes real trouble."
The call ended abruptly.
William's knuckles turned white around his phone.
Suddenly remembering something urgent, he dialed Sophia's number.
"Beep—"
The mechanical tone made his expression darken instantly.
"Bang!"
Files scattered across the office floor as he swept them aside.
William's chest heaved violently.
After a long pause, he called Christopher's assistant.
"How could Christopher suddenly go after Sophia during closed filming?"
The assistant glanced nervously at Emily before—
"Let me."
Emily took the phone, her eyes red-rimmed. "Big brother..." Her voice trembled with tears. "It's all my fault..."
"When third brother asked about family matters, I spoke without thinking..."
Sobs carried through the receiver.
William's chest tightened.
"Not your fault." He softened his tone. "You know how hotheaded Christopher is."
"But..." Emily choked out, "Sister got hurt because of me—"
"Sophia's just petty!" William's voice turned icy. "This has nothing to do with you."
A faint smile flickered in Emily's eyes.
"Should I apologize to her?" she asked timidly. "If she'll forgive—"
"Absolutely not!"
William's refusal was final.
"She's the one who owes apologies."
His tone gentled. "Don't worry. Sophia can't cause any real waves."
"Mmm..." Emily responded obediently. "Let me know if you need anything."
"You..." William sighed. "If only Sophia had half your sense..."
"Sister's actually quite kind—"
"Only you would defend her." William snorted.
Emily's lips curved slightly.
"Big brother..." She suddenly lowered her voice. "About Mom asking for money last time..."
William froze.
He'd just transferred 1.5 million last month.
Again?
