Chapter 278
Adrian Valdemar felt a surge of complicated emotions after Henry Chamberlain's warning.
He had always held prejudices against Sophia Laurent. But now, he had to admit she genuinely cared for him and his brother.
Any other gold-digging woman would have handed over money without hesitation. Only Sophia would impose restrictions.
Seeing Henry's solemn expression, Adrian grew even more unsettled.
When Sophia called, his tone softened involuntarily.
"Sophia, what's up?"
Her brows furrowed at his uncharacteristic gentleness.
Had he gotten into trouble again?
Why did he sound so guilty?
"Melanie said you left work early. Where are you?"
His eyes darted away. "Grandfather invited me for dinner. Want to join?"
"No." She paused. "Check your email. I sent you the audition script for the Young Marquis role."
To her surprise, Adrian complied without argument. "Got it."
His cooperation was unexpected, but she didn't dwell on it.
Lately, handling Valdemar Group affairs had become second nature to her.
Even the troublemakers within the company had quieted down.
After entrusting the film project to Adrian, she focused on her own work.
Soon, audition day arrived.
Returning to the film studio, Adrian's mindset had completely transformed.
Last time, he'd been a washed-up actor at everyone's mercy.
Today, he was auditioning for the male lead in the blockbuster "Empress."
This would have been unimaginable before.
He knew his acting limitations all too well.
Not to mention his chronic camera fright.
After entering the studio, he excused himself to the restroom, asking Sophia to go ahead.
Ten minutes of mental preparation later, he finally mustered the courage to leave.
A shrill female voice cut through the hallway.
"If it isn't Mr. Valdemar! Finally come to pay your breach fee?"
It was Director Chen from "Fleeting Love," dressed in haute couture, her face twisted in mockery.
Adrian froze.
Had Sophia been too busy to handle this?
"Don't play dumb!" Chen sneered. "Did you really think you could get away with it? That legal notice from your company was laughable—"
Hearing this, Adrian actually relaxed.
With feigned interest, he asked, "Oh? What exactly did our legal team demand?"
