Chapter 407
Sophia Laurent had long severed ties with the Lowell family. Yet Lowell Entertainment continued profiting in business circles by flaunting their connection to the Valdemars through marriage.
The Valdemars turned a blind eye out of respect for Sophia.
Even Patriarch Valdemar, who openly expressed his disdain for Richard Lowell, never actually took action against them.
Richard broke into a cold sweat at Alexander's voice. "Son-in-law, this is all a misunderstanding—" His tone instantly turned ingratiating.
"When you were comatose, I insisted on marrying my daughter to you despite opposition. Now that you've just woken up, you must be busy..."
"Why don't you bring Sophia home for dinner sometime?"
"Unnecessary." Alexander's voice was glacial. "Stop calling me your son-in-law. Sophia has cut ties with you. Don't harass her again."
The final words carried an unmistakable warning.
He had been studying Sophia's expression.
Though outwardly composed, she was usually gentle in her interactions. Now her furrowed brows and tense jawline betrayed deep irritation.
Alexander snatched the phone.
Verbal warnings weren't enough—the Lowells needed tangible consequences. Bullies only learned through punishment.
Sophia looked up at Alexander.
His slender fingers gripped her pink phone, veins faintly visible beneath pale skin. His protective stance stirred something unexpected in her chest.
He ended the call and returned her phone.
Sophia's dark eyes glittered as she met his gaze.
Alexander softened.
"Your phone." His voice gentled. "Sorry for interfering."
He hadn't realized how mistreated Sophia had been. Richard's casual verbal abuse suggested a long-standing pattern.
A flicker of心疼 crossed Alexander's eyes.
Sophia suddenly laughed.
"Thank you," she said sincerely. Though the Lowells' malice no longer affected her, being defended felt...nice.
Alexander's lips curved. "You're my wife. Protecting you is my duty."
Her heartbeat stuttered.
She quickly looked away.
A charged silence settled between them.
Then her phone rang again.
"Sophia, 'Empress' is wrapping up. Will you attend the promotional events?" Director Lucas Sheridan's cheerful voice came through.
